Deacons
Deacons are chosen by members of the congregation to serve on the Board of Deacons. This office as set forth in scripture is one of sympathy, witness and service. Persons who are honest, easily show love to others, have spiritual maturity and sound judgment are elected for this office. It is the duty of deacons to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, the friendless and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond our community of faith.
First Presbyterian elects 6 deacons every year who serve 2-year terms and others for partial terms as needed. There are 12 deacons who lead and initiate the caring ministries here. These ministries include visitation, taking Communion to the homebound, responding with food in times of crisis, arranging transportation to church, sending cards, setting up Communion elements and ushers, and responding to the needs in the community for food, gas and support.
