Elders
Elders are chosen by members in the congregation to serve on the Session, the governing board of the church. Together with the pastor, elders exercise leadership and have oversight for the life of a congregation. It is the duty of the elders to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation in all aspects. Elders are persons of faith, dedication and good judgment, whose lives demonstrate an example of the gospel lived out.
First Presbyterian elects 7 new elders every year for 2-year terms and others for partial terms as needed. There are 14 elders who govern on the Session. Each also serves on one of the 7 standing committees that support the ministry here. The committees consist of: Christian Education, Church and Society, Facilities, MemberCare, Money Matters, Personnel, Worship and ad hoc task forces as needed.
